The Project Plan
This project is based on the topic: Travel. My objective was to understand travellers’ behaviours and create an application to help ease their process of travelling. This includes the process of user research, online research, synthesising findings, ideation, usability testing, rapid prototyping and presenting of ideas.
Deliverables
User research, create one or more personas, define problem based on research, user flows, Create sketches/wireframes and clickable prototype, usability testing, iterate design based on testing results, present design
Tools
InVision, Illustrator, Indesign, Voice Recorder, Pencil and Paper, Post-it Notes, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PPT, Adobe Acrobat
Challenges
As this is an individual project, I had to plan and make decision by myself. Recruiting interviewees, conducting interviews and transcribing has to be done in a short timeline.

Tip/Facts on Travelling
In order to create a helpful app, I needed to understand how to make holiday trip more enjoyable and what are the tips to take note. These will allow me to consider what are the features that could be included in the app.

One of my interviewees said his most memorable overseas trip was when he decided to contact the locals on Facebook and managed to meet up with one of them in Myanmar. The local was willing to help him plan his itineraries and taught him some of their cultural knowledge like, the taxi driver will overcharge him knowing that he is a tourist.

WIREFRAME, TEST & ITERATE
Low-fi Wireframes
Low-fi wireframes allow me to quickly sketch out my ideas and to conduct round 1 of usability testing. The purpose was to save time on constantly changing the designs and to determine whether it was feasible to move on to the Hi-Fi wireframes.

Usability Test and Iteration
I tested my first and second prototypes on our personas to iterate on desirability, clarity and functionality.

Start Planning Button
“Didn’t notice <Start Planning Button>, will click on <the countries> first.”

Legibility
“Text are too small.”
“I find the bar below confusing.”

Trip Information
“What if I have not booked my flight”
“I don’t understand the question”

Funtionality
“I didn’t know I can click in to view info”

What can be improved?
-
Explore on more methods of synthesizing
-
Usability Test could have been conducted on more people, especially with the clickable prototype
-
The icons below are still too small, so I should re-visit my features prioritization on which to remove so that the rest of the icons can be bigger
What's Next?
For now, the planned-out itineraries are shown in the way that, as though the traveller had went to a tour agency (just without the tour guide). These plans are like fixed packages deal, except they can choose to replace or delete any attractions at their own comfort. Ultimately, these are people who like changing last minute plans. Hence, it will be better if they can enjoy better time management by having navigation functions to get them from one point to another. That is possible if there’s a collaboration between GoogleMap and TravEase itself as it will requires world-wide navigation map and real-time traffic conditions in order for it to work.

As for business accomplishment point of view, the application can always gain profit by helping to promote the places of interests. TravEase can also move towards providing information for car rental services and flight promotions. These will help increase profits and solve the resources limitations.
